Care and Cleaning Guide

Our cabinets are all finished with state of the art, baked on finishes, that are designed to stand up to daily kitchen activity.

Pre-Install:

When your cabinets arrive, unpack and inspect them. Put the cabinets into the same environment where they will be installed and allow them to acclimate for 1 or 2 days before installation. All wood product will continually move when subject to temperature and humidity changes. Our cabinets are manufactured to perform under normal home interior conditions. Temperatures below 45F and above 90F as well as humidity levels under 30% and above 70% could cause future issues.

Post- Install:

The walls and floors of your house are probably not perfectly level and square. Make sure to use shims during the installation process to keep your cabinets level, flush and square. After the installation is complete, remove all debris by hand. We recommend you use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to remove sawdust and dirt before you start cleaning. For the initial cleaning, we suggest a mild solution of warm water and a vegetable oil soap like Murphy oil soap be used for stained cabinets and a very mild solution of dish soap and warm water be used for painted finishes. Use a lint free damp rag to wipe down your kitchen interior and exterior surfaces. Dry clean surfaces immediately. Never use a dripping rag or let water set on the surfaces of your cabinets. The finish on your LifeDesign Home cabinets should never require waxing or polishing.

CAUTION!!!!

The following care products should NEVER be used when maintaining your kitchen.

  • No abrasive products. No matter how gentle they claim to be. This includes: Powder Cleansers, Gel Cleansers, Scouring Pads, “Magic Eraser”
  • No product containing bleach
  • No Glass Cleaner
  • No Polishes, waxes, no wax or oil based products
  • No products containing “petroleum based solvents” or silicone

Daily Care:

Prolonged exposure to water, food, grease or oils can permanently damage or discolor your cabinets. Timely cleanup is key to maintaining the beauty of your cabinets. Wipe up spills and drips with a clean damp rag and dry immediately. We suggest a mild solution of warm water and a vegetable oil soap like Murphy oil soap be used for stained cabinets and a very mild solution of dish soap and warm water be used for painted finishes. Keeping a spray bottle handy is a fast and convenient way to deal with this. When cleaning, always dampen a clean rag with the spray then dry the area. Do not spray directly onto the cabinetry surface. Never hang wet rags over your cabinet doors to dry.

Long Term Care:

You may want to clean your cabinet exteriors once or twice a year. We suggest a mild solution of warm water and a vegetable oil soap like Murphy oil soap be used for stained cabinets and a very mild solution of dish soap and warm water be used for painted finishes. When cleaning, always dampen a clean rag with the spray then dry the area. Do not spray directly onto the cabinetry surface. A citrus based cleaner can be used for stubborn spots during this cleaning cycle but do not use more than once or twice a year. Go over the area with the mild solution afterwards and dry immediately.
